The National Research Council (C.N.R.) is an Italian research institution with general scientific competence that promotes and conducts research activities of strategic importance at national and international levels, fostering cooperation with universities and other public and private entities. It coordinates scientific programs, supports government authorities in international initiatives, and engages in certification, technology transfer, and research valorization. Additionally, the C.N.R. contributes to academic and professional training through scholarships, doctoral programs, and advanced education initiatives.
CNR contributes to the project through three institutes: Istituto di Scienze Polari (ISP-CNR), Istituto di Scienze dell’atmosfera e del Clima (ISAC-CNR), and Istituto sull’inquinamento Atmosferico (IIA-CNR). Their expertises include field observation in Alpine and Svalbard regions, science communication, dissemination, and international networking. They specialise in characterising Earth’s climate across past, present, and future using numerical models, as well as studying snow cover seasonality, optical properties, and remote sensing techniques.
