Super-sites
The impact of climate change is not uniform across the entire globe; rather, it manifests differently in various regions. The consequences of climate change vary based on geographical locations. The LIQUIDICE project is strategically focused on specific glacial basins identified as super sites covering regions with diverse climatic characteristics and vulnerability to global warming. In these sites, local societies and communities heavily rely on the water supply sourced from these glacial basins for agriculture, hydroelectric power production, industry and public water supply. Crucially, these identified basins already have comprehensive data on glacial dynamics, mass balance, and snow cover. Monitoring programs are already in place, establishing a robust foundation from which the LIQUIDICE project can draw valuable insights. Additionally, these basins are relatively accessible, facilitating targeted campaigns aimed at obtaining new data and installing state-of the-art monitoring systems.
